After breakfast leave for Udawalawa.
Udawalawe is also a good bird watching site. Such as Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Red-faced Malkoha, Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill, Brown-capped Babbler, and Sri Lanka Jungle fowl are among the breeding resident birds. White Wagtail and Black-capped Kingfisher are rare migrants. A variety of water birds visit the reservoir, including cormorants, the Spot-billed Pelican, Asian Open bill, Painted Stork, Black-headed Ibis and Eurasian Spoonbill.
The open parkland attracts birds of prey such as White-bellied Sea Eagle, Crested Serpent-eagle, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Booted Eagle, and Changeable Hawk-eagle. Land birds are in abundance, and include Indian Roller, Indian Peafowl, Malabar Pied

After breakfast leave for Hikkaduwa via Galle. First visit Galle fort, Galle Fort was built first by the Portuguese, and then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Even today, after 400 years of existence, it looks new and polished with reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka, inside the Galle fort which is in a Dutch Colonial building on Church Street is the Cultural Museum.
The open parkland attracts birds of prey such as White-bellied Sea Eagle, Crested Serpent-eagle, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Booted Eagle, and Changeable Hawk-eagle. Land birds are in abundance, and include Indian Roller, Indian Peafowl, Malabar Pied Hornbill and Pied Cuckoo.

In the evening commence a city tour of Kandy including the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha - by far the most important place of worship for Buddhists world over, Upper Lake drive a place where one could have a bird's eye view of the city below.
And late evening witness the Cultural Show by traditional Kandyan Dancers and Drummers including "Fire Walking".

Evening city tour of NuwaraEliya Including Victoria Park, Gregory Lake and the Golf Course, the 119 year old club is situated within the city limits. Established in 1891. One of Asia's finest Golf Clubs.
On completion visit the Hakgala gardens. The Hakgala Botanical Garden was one of the pleasure gardens of King Ravana of the well-known epic Ramayana. This garden was expanded during the British period and has a wide variety of flowers including an excellent collection of orchids.
This is the exotic pleasure garden where king Ravana kept the depressed Sita, insisting that she marry him. It was here where the heart-warming meeting took place between her and Hanuman, who brought her Rama's ring with the news that Rama was looking for her. He offered to carry her back but she refused saying it would be an insult to Rama's honor if he did so. Part of this majestic garden still exists. It is also said that Hanuman nearly destroyed it in order to prove to Ravana of the forces against him.

4th DAY – NUWARA ELIYA - BANDARAWELA
After breakfast visit the Sita, Aman temple. The Sita Amman Temple can be seen en route to Hakgala along the NuwaraEliyaBadulla Road. The prominent temple architecture will not fail to attract your attention on the way to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens from NuwaraEliya. According to tradition, the site is associated with Sita of the Ramayana epic. Ancient statues of Rama and Sita can be seen on a side of the temple. The temple seen today is a modern building with its paintings, statues and pillars decorated with sculptures, all depicting the tale of Rama and Sita. The rear of the temple overlooks a stream, while from its front can be seen the Hakgala peaks.
Thereafter visit Isthripura via Welimada.
This exotic cave still boasts the picturesque cascading waterfall that was in existence 2000 years ago. It was within this cave that Sita was held prisoner with over 1500 women to attend to her every need.
Thereafter proceed to Welimada and visit Divurumpola temple.
Although this Vihara is said to be established in the 6th A.D. Polonnaruwa period it has a long history among people of having been started in the time of Rama, Rawana and Sita.
Still revered by thousands, this holy haven was the place where Sita performed her Agni Pariksha (proving her chastity) to her husband Rama. Continuing the practice for over thousands of years, villagers still pledge their fidelity or take oaths there and even in certain courts, this agreement was binding.
Since that time this place has been respected and worshiped by people down the ages. Furthermore it is said that this place was given the name "Divurumpola" or the place of making a wow. Not only in legends but this name has been inscribed in the moonstone guarding the Devale in the premises.

5TH DAY – BANDARAWELA – RATNAPURA – SITAWAKA - NEGOMBO
After breakfast leave for Negombo via Ratnapura and Sitawaka, Avissawella.
Ratnapura is the fabled city of gems. Its name remains unchanged over the years and means "city of gems". In Ratnapura prospecting and mining goes on every day. Visit a gem mine and a museum and strike a bargain at one of the shops.
Sitawaka, situated near Avissawella on a tributary of the Kelani Ganga (river). Not surprisingly it derives its name from Sita, who is supposed to have been imprisoned by Ravana in a grove in this neighborhood.

6th DAY – NEGOMBO – CHILAW - NEGOMBO
After breakfast leave for Chilaw and visit Muneeshwaram. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya in one of King Ravana'svimana's. He felt he was being followed by bramhaasthidosham as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. He stoped the vimana at this juncture because he felt at this place the "BrahmaasthiDosham" was not following him.
He ascended from the vimana and asked God Shiva for a remedy. God Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised him installing and praying four lingams at Manavari, ThiruKoneshwaram, ThiruKetheshwaram and Rameshwaram in India, as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham.
Manavari is the first place where Lord Rama installed and prayed the Siva lingam after the end of the war with King Ravana. To date this lingam is called as RamalingaShivan. Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in the world named after Lord Rama. Transfer from Chilaw to Negombo.

Anuradhapura is a City of archaeological and historical interest including Isurumuniya - the first temple to be built in the island, Sri Maha Bodhi Tree- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, Ruwanveliseya - the largest stupa in the island, Jethawanaramaya and Abhayagiriya - which in their original form have been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza and have thus been declared as World Heritage Sites , Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya- the first Stupa to be built in Sri Lanka enshrining the left collar bone of the Buddha, the Samadhi Statue - meditating posture etc thereafter drive to Sigiriya. En-route visit Mihinthale&Avkana temple.

The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. This paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.
Then proceed to Kandy. Enroute visit a Spice garden at Matale. Take part in a conducted tour to get some knowledge about the growth and use of spices in the day to day life in Sri Lanka.

About Jaffna
Jaffna District, the northernmost region of the Island of Sri Lanka, is one of the oldest habitation sites in Lower South Asia, populated by Tamil speaking people. Jaffna is situated within ten degrees of latitude to the north of the equator. It is in close proximity to the sub-continent of India and separated from it by the Palk Strait and the Bay of Bengal.
The peninsula is actually almost an island; only the narrow causeway known as Elephant Pass - for once elephants did wade across the shallow lagoon here connects Jaffna with the rest of Sri Lanka. Jaffna is low lying; much of it covered by shallow lagoons, and has a number of interesting islands dotted offshore. In all it covers 2560 square km (999 square miles). With just under 900,000 inhabitants, the district of Jaffna is one of the most densely populated areas of Sri Lanka, second only to Greater Colombo.
Most of the area is dry and sandy, and the most common tree is the palmyra palm with its elegant fan-like fronds. Locals here tap it for toddy, the sap from its cut flowers; like the sap of the coconut or kittul palms, this liquid can be distilled to make arrack or processed into jiggery, palm sugar. The leaves of the fan palm may be skillfully folded to make a beaker for toddy, but you more often see them serving as decorative fences around almost all the settlements.
The flat Jaffna Peninsula is made of limestone, unlike most other parts of Sri Lanka. The porous stone absorbs the rain very quickly and conveys it to the water table. This forms a specifically lighter layer, "swimming," as it were, on the salt water of the Indian Ocean that permeates the rock on all sides up to sea level. Open tanks are not practicable here, and fresh water has to be obtained from wells.
Jaffna has it all, friendly people, a rich culture, salubrious climate and a picturesque environment go to make it a veritable traveler's paradise. Now that the guns have fallen silent and peace is in sight, domestic tourism in this long forgotten northern retreat is gradually catching on. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²). Anuradhapura is a City of archaeological and historical interest including Isurumuniya - the first temple to be built in the island, Sri Maha Bodhi Tree- with an authenticated history of more than 2300 years which has been planted from a sapling from the original tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Ruwanveliseya - the largest stupa in the island, Jethawanaramaya and Abhayagiriya - which in their original form have been equivalent in size to the Great Pyramids in Giza and have thus been declared as World Heritage Sites , Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya- the first Stupa to be built in Sri Lanka enshrining the left collar bone of Lord Buddha, the Samadhi Statue - meditating posture etc thereafter drive to Sigiriya. After breakfast drive to Adams peak. Sri Pada or Adam's Peak as it is known to the Westerners, is a mountain 2237, meters high situated in the South- West corner of the Central Highlands. Thousands of pilgrims from many faiths climb the mountain to pay homage and make observances, commencing from full-moon day of December to the full moon day of April the following year. Buddhist believes that it enshrines the foot print of Gauthama Buddha at the summit. Hindus, Muslims and Christians also make pilgrimages for their own religious reasons. The sunrise from the mountain top is an unforgettable sight.
